I view costuming as conveying layers of depth, personality, and meaning to actors with each scene.

I am constantly inspired. Each day the world presents itself and I take notice of the styles and impressions that surround me. From current trends to the re-appropriated vernacular, I am taking notes.

Every art exhibit introduces an unforeseen connection.

Every unexpected look on the street brings an additional color to my palette.

Every blog tells me what direction designers are pursuing.

Every trip to a country or city opens my eyes to new behaviors and forms of representation.

When I join a new project, I am bringing this inspiration and range of references to the table to achieve the most successful result. Costuming is the means that I get to apply ideas and visions.

Each project brings a new perspective

to an industry that is constantly evolving. Understanding past projects helps to define my present endeavors and imagine future possibilities.

"Colby Kelly is a great asset to our union and industry. In the time that I have known Colby he has shown great creativity and efficiency at every opportunity. He is instinctive about clothing and fashion, and he shows a curiosity about his work that you don't see everyday. I couldn't recommend him more highly."

Heidi Bivens, Costume Designer

"Colby has assisted me in tackling many design issues and ideas using his constantly evolving resourcefulness. Not only does he have a great eye, he understands the history, structure and usage of vintage clothing. He is organized, helpful and has a strong sense for the business of film costumes. I would employ him on any of my future films."
